Privacy Policy

Väki collects as little as possible, keeps it carefully, and never sells your information to anyone. This policy explains what is collected, why, where it is kept, and what you can ask for. Last updated 22 September 2026.

If you join the mailing list: your first name and email address, and where on the site you signed up.

If you place an order: your name, email, delivery address and what you bought, so the order can be made and sent to you. Payment is handled by Stripe (see below).

If you email: whatever you choose to write.

When you visit: anonymous information about the visit — the pages viewed, the site or link that brought you here, your country, and the kind of device and browser. This cannot be used to identify you.

Card details are never seen, handled or stored by Väki. Payment happens on Stripe’s own secure checkout page, and Stripe holds that information under their own privacy policy.

To make and send your order, answer your messages, and — only if you signed up — send occasional emails about new work, releases and the journal. Every email has an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing removes you from the list straight away.

Visit information is used only to understand how the site is used and to make it work better — which pages people find, where they get stuck, which pieces they look at. It is never used for advertising, and never combined with your name or email.

Nothing is sold, rented or passed on for anyone else’s marketing.

The site counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and records nothing that identifies you.

To see how the site is actually used, Väki may also record anonymised visits: where the pointer moves and clicks, how far pages are scrolled, and the order pages are visited in. Anything typed into the site — names, emails, addresses, payment details — is never recorded. Recordings are used only to fix problems and improve the site, are viewed only by Väki, and are deleted after 90 days.

If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked before any recording starts, and nothing is recorded unless you agree. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

Väki does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Your cart, whether you have closed the newsletter pop-up, and your analytics choice are remembered in your own browser, and stay on your device.

While the site was in early access it set one cookie to remember that you entered the access code. It held no personal information.

A small number of services are needed to run the shop, and each only receives what it needs: Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting and visit counts), Neon (the database, held in Sydney), Resend (sending emails) and Australia Post or another carrier (delivery).

Some of these companies are based overseas, mainly in the United States, so your information may be stored or processed outside Australia. Each is bound by its own privacy and security obligations, and is used only on Väki’s behalf.

Mailing-list details: until you unsubscribe. Order records: as long as the law requires for tax and accounting, usually five to seven years. Session recordings: 90 days. Anonymous visit counts: kept in summary form.

You can ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, at any time, by emailing contact@vaki.world. You will get an answer within 30 days.

If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the right to object to or restrict how your information is used, and to receive a copy of it. Information is used to fulfil your order (contract), because you agreed (mailing list, recordings), or for the site’s legitimate interest in working properly (anonymous visit counts).

If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, please contact Väki first. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au), or to your local data-protection authority.

Information is sent over encrypted connections, access to it is protected by two-step sign-in, and backups are encrypted. No system is perfect, but care is taken to keep what little is held safe.

The site is not directed at children under 16, and does not knowingly collect their information.

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with its date. Questions about any of it: contact@vaki.world.
